Did I fly too close to the light, too high
Above the clouds and the highest mountains,
Thoughts of spending this life with only you
Taking me further away from the ground,
That I’m cast down without any tears.
Shut me out of heaven for forever
And left me to be consumed by the dark
For there’s only shadows without your arms.
I shone too bright with hopes and dreams of love
Unconditional and ever-lasting.
Was this my only sin or was there more
That has brought me this unfair punishment.
To think that I had you for eternity
Only to be reminded of love’s mortality.
